The surgeon can help you control the lung cancer by removing part or all the lung affected by the tumor. some lymph nodes will also be removed for a precise classification of the tumor (staging). This can be achieved through open or minimally invasive approaches using specific instruments and a camera or facilitated by a robotic system

The most important part of the treatment is the type of lung resection that you need regardless of the approach. It should allow a safe attempt to remove all the tumor and the lymph nodes of the hemithorax.

When the surgeon decides on a type of lung resection, he/she is deciding based on the functional respiratory repercussion of the resection on your normal life. Extension of the lung resection can be modified according to that issue. If you are worried about it, ask your doctor when discussing with him/her possible treatment options.
